The British Medical Acupuncture Society runs training programmes in the UK for medical doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals.

 

Who do we accept on these courses?

The BMAS offers training to healthcare professionals who are registered by statute in the UK. This includes doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, health visitors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, and podiatrists.

Please note: Before acceptance on our courses all health professionals must have:

1. Access to an orthodox medical diagnosis

2. Current membership of a recognised statutory regulatory body

3. Medical indemnity cover

4. Hepatitis B immunisation.

Training courses

Book courses online

1. The Foundation Course
This introductory course covers the basic concepts of acupuncture and is run over two weekends (four days) or from Monday to Friday (five days).

2. Post Foundation Training Course
A day course to refresh and develop skills learnt on the Foundation Course.

3. The Intermediate Training Programme
A programme of face-to-face short courses that focus on enhancing your practical skills with particular reference to your knowledge and understanding of Western medical acupuncture in the treatment of specific clinical conditions.

4. Supplementary / Special Topic Days
These days supplement intermediate training and continuing professional development.

5. Foundation Courses for Dentists
Provides an introduction to dental acupuncture.

6. Post Foundation course for Dentists
Refresh and develop the skills learnt on the Foundation Course.


Certification and Qualifications

1. Certificate of Basic Competence (CoBC)
Intended for practising medical acupuncturists who have previously attended the Foundation Course.

2. The Diploma of Medical Acupuncture (Dip Med Ac)
BMAS accreditation and the Diploma are available to all BMAS members.


Other Educational Activities

In addition, we hold a biannual Scientific Meeting and we have a number of Regional Groups who meet locally.

BMAS members can attend the London Teaching Clinic.
